I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only one who watches curling (I can't believe I just admitted that). You turn to the olympics and you're like "oh it's just curling" and then you can't change the channel because you get hooked on this weird stone sliding sport. However, I do not understand the rules or the physics of the sweeping???

My visit to the clinic yesterday went well. I had my seventh treatment and also received an infusion of platelets. The nurse practitioner who organizes/oversees all of the clinical trials for Leukemia came by and said the drug company is really interested in me. I'm one of the only ones whose Leukemia is staying in check and not having a lot of side effects. They even requested extra blood samples from me so they could further analyze my cells to see what's different about my Leukemia than other Leukemias that have continued to multiply despite of the drug. Next week ends "cycle 2" and we'll make a decision about how to proceed with cycle 3. We thought the dose would just go up but they are also considering giving me the same dose of the drug but twice a week instead of once a week. I have no idea how to decide which of these would be better so I will probably defer to Dr. Rizzieri's judgement.

It's still a little frustrating to me that the doctors are excited that my Leukemia is somewhat "controlled" by this drug. Of course that is a good thing, but at the same time I want to think about getting rid of the cancer instead of just keeping it from growing. However, I will take what I can get.

As always, much thanks, Amy

  1. Hey, Every day seems something new comes up to give us encouragement. I'm glad the drug co. is interested in your case, maybe you will be one to help perfect this drug. Just think, what you are going through just might be hope for someone else. God is using you, my dear. We just continue to pray for our miracle, that it will take the leukemia away completely. You hang in there, you're doing just great. I'm so proud to be your grandma. I love you, and Michael, and Kathy, and Greg. In fact, I love everyone, but I really LIKE all of you a lot! There's a difference! Grandma

  2. Hope that while the drug is keeping your cancer controlled that you'll also start getting a little more energy so that you can enjoy living more! Very glad that you're not getting any side effects that the drug company is referring to unless fatigue is one of them. Will be anxious to hear what your medical team recommends!

  3. Amy,
I'm so glad you are getting some good results. Maybe twice a week will give even better ones.
I'm praying that God will guide the medical folks concerning this.
    Peace,
    Lisa

  4. Dear Amy,
I'm just glad to hear that others are foregoing sleep to watch the Olympics just as I am. Along with that, I am expected to teach entire days for 5 days in a row? LOL Your reports sound very good. Prayers will flow for your medical team as Lisa mentioned AND for your next BMB.

Love and HUGS to our Pretty Lady,

And I thank Him for your minimal side effects and the dedicated medical staff that attends you. Know that you're always in our thoughts and prayers. We love you.

  9. dear amy and gang,

i had a conversation with blair putnam (frank beamers favorite hokie mascot) on this subject matter and she explained it all to me.....

curling is sooooooooooooooooooo popular because of several factors....

    1. green acres....yes the t.v. show.....with its earliest american beginnings in the midwest, curling brings back fond memories of life on the farm and since most of us never lived on a farm.....it brings back childhood memories of green acres...can't ya just see mr. haney trying to sell mr. uhh douglas a couple throwin stones; only used once by an old widow woman from over in east hooterville....mrs. douglas throwin in a couple olivahs...ebb just being ebb (the true brains of the operation) and of course arnold gingerly struttin around a side of bacon better than any other actor i can think of????????

    2. jobs in this economy.....where do ya think all those curllin sweepers came from???????one of the first job markets to get hit was tourism.....when tourism drys up...who gets the first pink slips?????? the maids....curling has created thousands of jobs for these laid off workers....ever wonder why afghanistan, burma, and haiti had no curling teams in the olympics?????? no??????? they ain't got no hotels!!!!! without professional sweepers to draft in to service; they would never have "maid" it past the preliminary rounds... and

    3. i can't believe i didn't think of this one???
leave it to blair to point out that curling is alot like bowling and everybody knows if you throw three perfect shots in a row in bowling...what do you get.... give up???????
a HOKIE!!!!!!!!!errrr er erah errrahhhugh errrr

have a great day and thank blair first chance you get for enlightening us!!!!!

    love ya mean it
