Hello everyone! Things are going well here at Duke. I'm still feeling great and ready for the next phase of my treatment to start. We found out today that I will be going into the hospital on Friday for the next round of chemo. This will again be a seven day regimen and I will be in the hospital the whole time. Like at UVA they are hoping to get me out of the hospital as soon as possible after the treatment as long as my fever stays down. However, this time I will be going "home" to a townhouse we are going to rent instead of the lovely Red Roof Inn Resort (: - Friday will be a busy day with me going into the hospital and Michael is also moving into the townhouse. However, we are very excited we found something to rent so we will feel more at home here in Durham.

Now to the more important part of my post. I've learned many things during this experience of having Leukemia and one of them is to appreciate being from a small town!!!! You guys have banded together behind me in ways that I could not have ever imagined and your support helps me keep this positive attitude that I keep getting comments on. I hear Cucci's was amazing yesterday both in the number of people who turned out and also the atmosphere. If only I could have been there. Thanks to everyone who came to eat or called in orders. A special thanks to Mrs. Proffitt and the AHS Key Club! A special special thanks to Victor Cucci and the rest of the staff. I will have to come meet you and thank you in person when this is all over. I just can't say thank you enough.

Hope everyone is well!

Amy

  3. Hi Sugars,
Just a word of encouragement from your old board game buddy. Remember all the great competition! How well I remember losing most of the time to a 4 year old and a 5 year old and a 6 year old and so on… One thing you really taught me when it comes to playing games that require brain power…”Humility”! One of my main excuses back then was that you were smarter than the average kid. (that’s the best I could come of with at the time). But now that you have excelled in a subject like “math” all the way through college and post graduate studies, it at least adds some validity to my excuse! By the way, please forgive me for all the times that I cheated and still lost!
Amy, you’re very special to me and I’m so sorry that you have to go through this difficult procedure. But, if you have to, Duke is one of the best places in the country (the best for the best) to have this procedure. My real confidence and peace come from knowing that you are in the hands of our Lord, the Great Physician. We have a prayer chain in our church praying for you every day and we have some great prayer warriors in our fellowship. I look forward, with great expectations, to see how the Lord will bless you as well as use you for His glory during this difficult time. Send my love to Michael and before closing, I want to thank both of you for your witness to me in your love for each other. Stay close and keep your eyes on Jesus, for brighter days are ahead. Love, Johnny Stowe.

  7. It's been a while since I could send you a comment because I've been in Covington with no internet access!!! I'm glad to see you are happy so far in NC and a year will fly by before you know it! Your dad was wonderful at Cucci's on Tuesday, I talked to him at lunch, and also at dinner. You can't ever eat there too much!! I am praying for you and your family and that things settle down as soon as possible. I see you're going back into the hospital tomorrow and I pray for your strength and spirit through the next round of chemo. Please let me know if there is anything you need or want that I can send!

  9. Amy,

We're happy to hear things are going so well there at Durham. We hope your chemo treatments will go just as well as they did at UVA.

We're going down for the Hymn Sing and to visit with your grandma. Sure wish we could have been there at Cucci's Tues. Sounds like it was a blast.

If there is anything we can do for you or Michael, please let us know. Take care and we know you will be happier in the townhouse than you would be in another Red Roof Inn.

Give Michael a belated "Happy Birthday" for us.

    We love you,

    Tommy and Patty
