I hate having negative posts but unfortunately this will probably be one of them. We did not get very good news today at the clinic. My white count increased by another point and the percentage of blasts in my blood went up to 68%. (It had been consistently staying around 50%). So it looks like the STA-9090 is no longer working on my Leukemia.

Dr. Rizzieri came and talked to us for a while and decided to go ahead and give me my treatment today and recheck everything again on Tuesday. In the meantime, he will be looking into other options for treatment. He said there is another trial opening up in May for a drug that is theoretically similar to STA-9090 but different. That may be one option for me. They plan on putting me on the medicine Hydrea to keep my white count down until we have a plan set into motion.

In spite of this, I'm still feeling really well and I'm also thankful that I have a doctor who will keep trying and keep coming up with plans even if the end result is just prolonging my life.

I have to end on a positive note: Peanut Butter Pie from TGIFridays!!!

Bon Appetit,
Amy

  1. I can't think of a prettier guinea pig anywhere.
I am so thankful Dr. R has a plan for you, and maybe this trial will be the one to kick that Leukemia out of you. Stay on the path you are on now and help research find the drug to fight that cancer and help many others as well as yourself. God is not finished with you yet! Jer.29:11.."For I know the thoughts that I think toward you...thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope." I love you so much, and God loves you even more.

  2. Not what anyone wanted to hear, but we don't always, huh? Has to be a tough day for you guys in Durham so I'm glad you are going to enjoy some peanut butter pie. I'm thankful you are feeling well. And I'm thankful you have a fabulous doctor. I'm thankful that we can have God's peace in the midst of our storms and trust Him. "Those of steadfast mind you keep in peace - in peace because they trust in you. Isaiah 26:3 Know, and feel, that you are loved, so loved, and lifted up in prayer constantly.

  3. It must be so frustrating to receive news that you're not doing as well as you'd hoped when you're also actually feeling somewhat better again! So sorry....and yeah, I'm also glad that your doctor has the persistence and courage to keep looking and trying anything and everything for treatment....Guess he figured out early on that you are worth it!!!!!

  8. Hey Pretty Lady,
On to the next plan... We have all learned to roll with things, but I have never met anyone quite as stubborn as you :) That is said with ALL the admiration and love that I can send your way. As the rest of us learn from you, we thank God for Your witness to us. YOU are amazing! How did you become so wise? ALL I can I say is that the next time someone calls you stubborn, smile and accept it as a compliment :)
    Love and BIG HUGS!

  9. Dear Amy - I just could not go to sleep until I sent you this note. There will always be happenings in this world that we as humans will not be able to understand. I do believe that the treatment you have received to this point has served a purpose though we may never know exactly what that purpose is. The important thing to remember is that the lastest results did not come as a surprise to God or leave Him wondering "what do we do now?". God's plan remains exactly what it was before you even knew you were going to have to deal with this crisis. Only He knows exactly what that plan is and by faith (not by sight!)He will disclose it as it should be. It is God Almighty who will lead you through this. God loves you so much more than you could ever imagine, so climb up in His lap and lean on Him. This will be one of the times in your life that when you look back, there will only be one set of footprints, and we know that it is because He is carrying you. Yes, one day we will all know the joy of living in the land of milk and honey where there is no pain and no sorrow, only joy. But that time is not yet for you, little one. God has big plans for you and work for you to do before you claim your reward. So, take a deep breath, listen for His still small voice and move forward. In God's perfect time, this will all be a memory.
